Adopt a Soldier ~Dec 19th 2008 [Thanks Elaine]

Hey All I just received an email from my cousin in Texas and I was soo excited about it, that I wanted to share with you all what I found.

Her email is as follows:

Dear family and friends,

For a while now, I've felt the need to show our troops how much they're appreciated. I wasn't really sure how to go about it until one day when I came across an article about AuntNancyUSA.com It was exactly what I was looking for. I signed up to "adopt" a soldier and a few weeks ago I received a name and an address. I sent a package immediately hoping it would make it there before Christmas and it did! I received this from Sgt. Larry yesterday.

I'm not sure what to call you, but you are a God-send. Many of the soldiers including my own, were kind of skeptical about the support we would receive fromhome. We knew that our families would support us, but not total strangers. I have to admit, I was a little freaked out about receiving a package from someone Ididn't know. Then when I read the letter it made mefeel warm inside. My soldiers really do appreciate the cookies and candy. I especially liked the cheese and crackers. I want to thank you for your support ofall of our troops no matter what the cause. It is our troops that need your support, whether you believe inwhat we are fighting for or not. We are your brothers and sisters, your mothers and fathers, uncles and aunts, your neighbors, friends, and family... we are yours.

Please continue supporting our troops and I pray that people will follow in your footsteps. I will be sending letters soon. I just wanted to return a message before Christmas. May God bless you, your family, and those that come into contact with you!

Happy Holidays!Larry D. MossSGT, USA8TH MP BDE, Medic

That e-mail was the best Christmas gift I could have received.

If there are those of you out there who feel lead to do so, I would encourage you to adopt a soldier as well. It really is so easy. The large flat rate priority mail boxes are free. You can either pick them up at the post office or order them on-line and they're dropped off at your door. It's $10.95 for anything you can fit into that box up to 20 pounds.

You'd be surprised at how much can go in there! You can pay for the postage on-line, print out the address label and affix it to your package. You can even schedule a package pick up on-line and just leave it on your doorstep. (Woo hoo! No waiting in line at the post office!)

Whenever I go to the grocery store, I pick up one or two items for next month's package; beef jerky, Oreos, etc. For us those things are no big deal, for our troops they're a little bit of home.

You don't have to send a package every month either, letters and cards are greatly appreciated too. Please, please seriously consider adopting a soldier. Believe me, the gift you receive in return is far greater than what you'll give.

Have a Merry Christmas! Love~ Elaine

Snowy & ICY Ohio ~ Dec 19th 2008

Hi Everyone

Today is Friday, December 19th 2008, and we have just endured a second round of snow in the last week and last night it turned into a snow/ice storm and we got iced over.

We look like an icy, glossy gingerbread house with the glisten of frozen water all over the trees and road ways and power lines.

Needless to say all the local schools closed and every child got an extra day added to their Christmas holiday due to the extreme weather.

Now my child, age 6 turning 7 in less than a month was just a wee bit disappointed. Today was supposed to be their Party with classmates and teacher. A day filled with watching movies, snacks, singing and exchanging gifts. She quickly got over it and has been lounging in her pj's all morning doing loads of nothing.

Their teacher did have some warning and her foresight allowed her to hold a make shift party for all the 1st graders with whatever they had on hand to enjoy the afternoon with what they had. Mrs. McAfee gave them the lovely book she got for her budding readers and my daughter was delighted to say the least, especially the inscription inside the front cover.

I of course knew what the gift was, as last month when I went to order a stack of reading material from her classroom, I got the call alerting me that she was going to be getting the book for each of the classmates, since this book was on my book order with the rest of my order.

I told the teacher I would select other books and to go ahead and get this one for I knew Marjke would be thrilled to get it from her.
Calls from just outside of town here alerted me that my sister and brother had both suffered from power outages this morning, and I just kept praying and preparing to bundle up the kiddies if needed. They did call me back within an hour and told me power had been restored and they were getting all toasty once again. I was surprised, yet overjoyed that they did not have to make a long icy trip over to get warm again.

Well, I am in the middle of reading the 'Twilight' series, so I am going to scoot and take advantage of not having to run out for anything and get cracking.

As far as the story in the books in concerned it is quite enjoyable and such interesting twists to just your average love story. My hubby and I have always enjoyed the weird and wacky movies of Vampires such as portrayed in the 'Blade' series and also the'Underworld' films, so I was all too happy to find some reading material in that nature.

I haven't seen the movie yet; and while I am excited to see it, I would just as soon finish all 4 books before I go out and watch the film.

I am on book 3, 'Eclipse' and it has been as action packed as the first two books soo far.

Well, before I jump to another topic I am going to sign off and sign out!

Hope your Holidays are enjoyable and you all keep warm and safe.
